Know all men by these presents that we Blair Burwell and Jno C Hobson of the County of Powhatan & State of Virginia for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars paid by Billy Stuart to the said Blair Burwell (it being the amount heretofore advanced by the said Burwell to aid in the purchase of the said Billy Stuart from Jno B Alexander) have this day emancipated and set free and by these presents do hereby emancipate set free and forever discharge the said Billy Stuart from servitude or slavery through all time to come and we do hereby consent and agree that the said Billy Stuart shall & may enjoy all the rights privileges and immunities as a free man discharged from the claim of both and each of us, and all persons claiming under us in as full and ample a manner as the laws of the land will admit. In testimony whereof we have hereunto affixed our hands & seals this sixth day of March eighteen hundred and forty six.

At a court held for Powhatan County at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 7th day of Sept 1846. The foregoing deed of emancipation was presented in court and proved by the oath of Wm Crump Jr a subscribing witness thereto & continued.
And at another court held for the said County at the Courthouse aforesaid on the 1st day of November 1847, the said deed was again presented in court & further proved by the oath of Tho. P Nash another witness thereto & ordered to be recorded.
