Know all men by these presents that I Richard W Atkinson of the County of Powhatan and State of Virginia have manumitted, emancipated and set free my following slaves male and female to wit, Sarah born on the 17th July 1814 and her child Richard about 18 months old; Isaac born on the 11th September 1816, Adelia born on the 12th August 1818; Dilsey or Dulcinen born on the 12th August 1820; and Mary about five or six years old; and I hereby declare the aforesaid negro slaves to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of free persons with which it is in my power to vest them. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this the 4th day of December 1837.

At a Court held for Powhatan County at the courthouse thereof on Monday the 4th day of December 1837. The foregoing deed of emancipation was presented in court and acknowledged by Richard W. Atkinson to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
