Know all men by these presents that I Frederick Woodson of the County of Powhatan, and Commonwealth of Virginia, in consideration of the trusty and faithful services of Edward Woodson, my negro man slave (born in April in the year of Christ 1785- four feet ten inches in height, strong build in statue, and slow and hoarse of speech). And also for divers good causes and considerations me, the said Frederick Woodson, hereunto moving, have given, granted, and confirmed and from the delivery of these presents, do give, grant, and confirm unto the said Edward Woodson, a negro man, full and perfect freedom and emancipation to the said Edward Woodson, a negro man against me the said Frederick Woodson, my heirs, executors and administrators and all and every other person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof I the said Frederick Woodson, have on this 16th day of November in the year of Christ 1813 and of our Independence the 38th subscribed my name and affixed my seal and delivered to the said Edward Woodson a negro man & this deed of emancipation.

Virginia, to wit:
At a court of monthly sessions holden for the County of Powhatan, in the state aforesaid, at the Courthouse of the said county, on the 17th day of November in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, this deed of emancipation from Frederick Woodson to a negro man named Edward Woodson, was presented in court and acknowledged by the said Frederick Woodson to be his act and deed and was thereupon ordered to be recorded.
