To all to whom these presents may concern, know ye that for divers good causes to us know, that we Thomas Turpin, Obedience J Turpin & Sally G Turpin, do for selves, our heirs executors, administrators and assigns, liberate, emancipate and set free, a mulatto girl named Kitty, her and her heirs for ever, being now the individual property of the estate of Thomas Turpin, or so much of the interest of the said girl as may belong to us the said Obedience J Turpin & Sally G Turpin, we do for ourselves & forever warrant and defend from all persons claiming any interest in the said mulatto girl Kitty. Witness our hands & seals this first day of Apr 1798.

At a court held for Powhatan County, the 17th day of September 1806, this deed of emancipation from Obedience J Turpin, Sally G Turpin and Thomas Turpin, to a mulatto girl slave named Kitty, was presented in court and proved by the oath of Horatio Turpin a subscribing witness thereto, and by the court admitted to record.
