This indenture made and entered into this sixteenth da of January eighteen hundred and five between John Harris of Powhatan County on the one part and Abby a negro girl of the same county on the other part. Witnesseth that I the said John Harris for divers good causes appearing unto me and particularly for the true and faithful manner in which the said negro girl hath served me in the capacity of a servant. I the said John Harris hath and by these presents do emancipate and forever set free after the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred and eight (at which time the said negro girl Abby will have arrived to the age of eighteen years old) and do forever quit claim to all her future services. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 16th day of January eighteen hundred and five.

At a court held for Powhatan County the 16th day of January 1805. This deed of emancipation from John Harris for a certain negro girl slave named Abby was presented in court and acknowledged by the said Harris and ordered to be recorded.
