I Elisha Maxey of Powhatan County do by these presents hereby fully emancipate, and set at full liberty from me and my heirs the following slave at the period hereafter mentioned, Richard to go out free the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and one. Given under my hand and seal this 21st day of February 1798.

At a court held for Powhatan County the 21st day of March 1798. This deed of emancipation from Elisha Maxey for a certain negro slave named Richard was presented in court acknowledged by him the said Maxey, and ordered to be recorded.
