Powhatan County to wit
To all to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye, that I John Harris jun. of the said County, for and in consideration of sundry good causes me thereunto moving, but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of eighteen pounds to me in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have liberated, emancipated and set free and by these presents do liberate, emancipate and set free Nanny a negro woman; and I do by these presents warrant & will forever defend, to the said Nanny and her posterity hereafter to be born, a full and perfect and free right & exercise of such liberation emancipation & freedom against myself, my heirs, and every other person and persons whatever claiming or who may claim any right, title, interest or estate in or to the said Nanny, or her posterity hereafter to be born. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 21st day of June 179Seven.

At a court held for Powhatan County the 21 June 1797. This deed of emancipation from the within named John Harris to the within named Nanny was presented in open court and acknowledged by the said Harris and ordered to be recorded.
