Know all men by these presents that I Thomas G Marshall of the County of Fauquier in the State of Virginia, manumit, emancipate, and liberate a certain mulatto woman called Betsy Henry who is now residing in Richmond Va. which woman was purchased by me in 1822 (she being then a child at a sale made at Taylorsville by Anthony R Thornton, Deputy Marshall of the United States for the Eastern District of Virginia, which said emancipation and liberation I hereby make binding upon myself and heirs, forever quitting all claim to the services of the said Betsy Henry. In witness whereof I have hereto affixed my hand and seal this 30th day of August 1844.

We Robert M Stribling and B.R. Bradford Justices of the peace in and for the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Thomas G. Marshall, a party to a certain deed of emancipation bearing date the 30th day of August 1844, and hereunto annexed, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Fauquier, in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 12th day of September 1844.

This deed of emancipation was acknowledged in open court by T.G. Marshall, and ordered to be recorded.
