Know all men by these presents that I Sarah Bell of the County of Fauquier and State of Virginia in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to me in hand paid by my negro man slave Nelson Glead the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have manumitted, emancipated and set free the said negro man slave Nelson Glead and I hereby declare him to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person, with which it is in my power to vest he the said Nelson Glead hereby emancipated is a man of dark complexion about five feet six & a half inches high, about forty eight years old. In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and seal this 6 day of September 1843.
