Know all men by these presents that I F Townshend Nicholas Attorney in fact for Samuel Nicholas of the State of Ohio for and in consideration of the sum of five shilling current money of [blank] to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath bargained sold [illegible] and forever set free one negro man named George the property of the said Samuel Nichols to be and remain forever free as if he had been born so to all intents and purposes it being the wish of the said Samuel Nichols that the said George shall be free for whose advantage the said sum of five shillings was paid as witness my hand and seal this 15th day of April 1806.
