Know all men by these presents that I Nathaniel Greaves of Fauquier County in the Commonwealth of Virginia pursuant to the 36th section of the Act of General Assembly, entitled an Act “to reduce into one the several acts concerning Slaves Free Negroes and Mulattoes” do manumit liberate and set free and by these presents do manumit, liberate and to all intents and purposes, one negro woman, named Sarah which said negro woman I purchased of Thomas Thorp to commence free the last day of December, eighteen hundred and eleven. Also if she should have children hereafter while she remains in bondage, the male children shall go free at twenty four years of age and the females at twenty one, with their issue. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and one.
