Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Skinner of Fauquier County for and in consideration of natural affection that I bear to my man slave named Edward Morton as well as for the further consideration of one hundred pound to me in hand paid by the said Edward Morton at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. Have given and granted, and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Edward Morton to have and to hold his perfect freedom forever. And the said Thomas Skinner for his executors and administrators and assigns have taken bond from the said Edward for the payment of the money. And have given unto the said Edward Morton his freedom forever against the claim of him the said Skinner his Executors and administrators and against the claim and claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by them these presents. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 20th day of February one thousand eight hundred.

This manumittal was proved to be the act and deed of the said Thomas Skinner by the oath of Robert Stringfellow a witness thereto and ordered to be certified. And at a court held for the said County the 28 day of July 1800, the same was further proved by the oaths of William Stringfellow and James Stringfellow other witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
