Text of Freedom Document

To all persons to whom these presents shall come, know ye that I Baldwin Coppedge of the County of Fauquier and State of Virginia have for causes and considerations me thereunto moving and by these presents do emancipate and set free a negro slave late my property called and known by the name of Sook and I do hereby fully and freely absolve and acquit the said slave from all further and future service. Given under my hand and seal this [blank] day of [blank] in the year 1795.

At a court held for Fauquier County the 26th day October 1795. This deed was proved to be the act and deed of the said Baldwin Coppedge by the oath of Travis Coppedge a witness thereto. And at a court held for the said County the 28th day of December 1795 the same was further proved by the oath of Lewis Coppedge another witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
