Know all men by these presents that I Francis Cousins a free man of color of the County of Goochland County having a lawful right & property in three negroes to serve until they shall respectively arrive to the age of thirty years when they will be entitled to freedom to wit, Ridley & her two children named Frank Wm & Lucy Ann which said three negroes I purchased of Robert Pleasants as per his bill of sale to me dated 30th January 1816. Now be it known that for the good will and affection that I have for the above named three negroes who are my relations, I do hereby emancipate and declare them to be free from me, from this date as slaves and also to be free from all and every person or persons whatsoever claiming by from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 18th day of March in the year 1816.
