I Thomas Taurman of the County of Goochland in Virginia being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I should desire to be done by in the like situation and having under my care a negro man who I have thereto held in slavery named Sam about fifty years of age. I hereby emancipate & set free the said Sam and I do for myself, m y heirs, Exrs and Admrs relinquish all my right title interest and claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever either to his person or to any estate he may hereafter acquire. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of July one thousand seven hundred and eighty four.
