This deed witnesseth that I Peyton Shelton of the County of Fluvanna for and in consideration of the natural love and affection I bear to my wife Anna Shelton and for the further consideration of the sum of five dollars to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of those presents by the said Anna Shelton the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have emancipated, manumitted, set free and discharged from slavery forever and by these presents do for myself heirs extrs administrators and assigus forever emancipate, manumit, set free and discharge from slavey the said Anna Shelton with all the future children of said Anna. In testimony, of the promises I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of August one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

At a court of quarterly sessions held for Fluvanna County on Monday the 25th day of August 1823. This deed of emancipation was this day in open court acknowledged by Peyton Shelton a party thereto to be his act and ordered to be recorded.
