This indenture witness that whereas I John B Magruder of Fluvanna County and State of Virginia, am possessed of a negro woman named Henny of the age of twenty three years, one negro woman named Sall of the age of twenty six, and one named Peg of the age of thirty & one negro boy named Luke of the age of two years and one negro boy named Humphrey of the age of four months and am desirous to manumit and set free all and every of the said negroes and their present and future increase at the periods of time as hereafter mentioned (viz) negro Henny one year from the date hereof, negro Sall six years, and negro Peg four years from date, negroes Humphrey and Luke at the age of twenty five years and all and every of their future increase the male at the age of twenty five years and females at the age of twenty one. And I do hereby quit all right and claim to the said negroes and their increase and do warrant and defend unto them their freedom and a discharge from all service at the periods of time above mentioned against all and all manner of persons claiming or who may claim then, their increase or service through me after the periods of time above mentioned by virtue of these presents. In witness whereof I do hereunto set my name and affix my seal this first day of January Anno domini one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight.

At a court held for Fluvanna County on Thursday the first day of February 1798. This deed of emancipation was this day in open court acknowledged by John B. Magruder a party thereto to be his act and admitted to record.
