Know all men by these presents that I Henry Anderson of the County of Amelia and State of Virginia in consideration of certain meritorious services rendered me by my negro woman slave named Julia do by these presents hereby manumit and set free the said negro woman Julia and her child named Paul, intending hereby that the said slaves shall be actively and fully discharged from slavery. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20th day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty eight.
