Know all men by these presents that I Abner Chappell of Amelia County in the state of Virginia by virtue of the act of assembly in that case made and provided do hereby emancipate and set free from bondage the following slaves namely Tom, aged forty, Bob, aged forty, Lucy aged thirty eight and hereby these presents for myself and my heirs grant release and forever quit a claim unto the said negroes respectively all my right title interest and claim whatsoever as to the property person or to any estate they now have or may hereafter acquire hereby declaring the said negroes absolutely free without any interruption from me or any persons claiming under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty seventh day of September one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven.

At a court held for Amelia County the 25th October 1787. This deed of emancipation was returned into court and acknowledged by Abner Chappell party thereto and to be recorded.
