I Ashley Johnson of Amelia County being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I would be done by in the like situation and having under my care two negroes of the following names and ages viz. Isaac twenty nine years Lucy thirty eight years old I hereby emancipate and set free the above named slaves and do for my self my heirs Executors and Administrators relinquish all my right title interest & claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may hereafter acquire, and having under my care two negroes of the following names & ages viz. Sam eleven years & Edith ten years old whom I also emancipate and set free and do for myself and my heirs Executors and Administrators relinquish all my right title interest & claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may acquire after they attain to the age of eighteen years when they are to enjoy their freedom in as full and ample a manner as if they had been born of free parents without any interruption from me or any person claiming for my from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 30th day of September 1782.
