I John Johnson of Amelia County being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation and having under my care one negro of the following name and age viz Phillis aged fifty five years. I hereby emancipate and set free the above named slave and do for my self, my heirs, Executors, and administrators relinquish all my right title interest & claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever either to her person or any estate she may hereafter acquire and having under my care a negro of the following name and age Jeffrey sixteen years old whom I also emancipate and set free and do for my self my heirs Executors and Administrators relinquish all my right title interest & claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever either to his person or to any estate he may hereafter acquire after he shall attain the age of twenty one years when he the said negro and his posterity is to enjoy their freedom in as full & ample a manner as if he had been born of free parents without any interruption from me or any person claiming for by from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 21st day of September 1782.
