This deed made the 22nd day of September in the year of our Lord 1855 by William H. Ott of the County of Augusta and State of Virginia, witnesseth that the said William H. Ott in consideration of five hundred dollars, doth manumit and set free his slave Jefferson Henderson aged fifty two years, the said Jefferson Henderson is a [?pale?] black, six feet one inch in height, has a large scar on the elbow of his right arm and a second scar near the wrist of the same arm. He is large and well proportioned.
Witness the following signature and seal.

State of Virginia, Augusta County Court Sept.
I Archer M Moore a Justice of the Peace in and for said county of Augusta do hereby certify, that, William H. Ott, part to the writing dated as above, the 22nd day of September 1855 and whose name is signed thereto, hath acknowledged the same before me in my said County of Augusta.
Given under my hand this 22nd day of September 1855.

This deed of emancipation from Wm. H. Ott to Jefferson Henderson was presented in court and being acknowledged by said Ott before a Justice of the Peace for this county is with his certificate ordered to be recorded.
