Know all men by these presents that we Jacob Keiser and James Cullen of the County of Augusta and State of Virginia, from motives of benevolence, have manumitted and set free from slavery, and do hereby manumit and set free from slavery our negro man Billy Thompson aged about sixty five years and we do hereby grant and release unto the said Billy Thompson all our rights titles and claim, of in and to his person, labour and service and of in and to all the estate and property which he may hereafter acquire or obtain. In witness we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seal this 6th date of August 1851.

Augusta County to wit
I W Massie a justice of the peace for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Jacob Keiser and James J Cullen whose names are signed to the above writing, bearing date the 6th day of August 1851, have acknowledged the same before me, in my County aforesaid. Given under my hand this 15th day of August 1851.

This deed of emancipation from Jacob Keiser and James J Cullen to Billy Thompson was presented in Court and being acknowledged by said Keiser and Cullen before a justice of the pace for this county, is with the certificate of said justice thereon endorsed ordered to be recorded.
