Know all men by these presents that I Catherine Baylor of the County of Augusta and State of Virginia have manumitted emancipated and set free and by these presents do manumit emancipate and set free a negro man slave named Thomas Massie (generally known by the name of Tom) who was the property of my husband George Baylor now deceased and who was sold to me by the Executors of said George Baylor dec and I hereby declare him the said Thomas Massie to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a free person with which it is in my power to vest him he the said Thomas Massie hereby emancipated is a man of tolerable dark complexion give feet seven and a fourth inches high and about forty eight years old.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 30th day of August 1848.
