I John Miller of the County of Rockingham and State of Virginia in consideration of the service heretofore rendered & the good character of my negro man Abner now about fifty years of age hereby emancipate and set him free so that neither me nor any heirs shall hereafter claim or exercise any authority over him. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the 17th day of June 1843.
