John Ellyson of New Kent County being persuaded that Freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation and having under my care sixteen Negroes of the following names. Vizl, Peter, Lucy, Tamer, Cate, Frank, Milia, Robert, Daniel, Roger, Elizabeth, Amey, Jemima, Sarah, Mary, Jane & William I hereby emancipate & set free all and every the above named slaves and I do for my self my heirs Exors & Admors relinquish every right To the interest & claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may hereafter acquire. Several of the said slaves being now in their minority and believing it right for me to act as guardian over them until the males live to the age of twenty one and the females to the age of eighteen years when the above said Negroes and their posterity are to enjoy their freedom as fully as any manner as they [illegible] [illegible] offered without any interruption from me or any person claiming for by from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the 7th day of the first month of 1783.
