Text of Freedom Document
I Thomas Grady of Albemarle County and State of Virginia in my right mind give and bequeath my title interest as follows. First I leave my negroes free, and to remain under the direction of David Higginbotham, who I wish to act as mater for them until the youngest one becomes of age, and the said Higginbotham is also authorized to sell and collect the monies arising from such sales, and hold in his hands, until the youngest slave children to wit, Anne & Wilson becomes of age and [illegible] the same cut in real estate and hold the right in his hands for their benefit yearly he is by these presents authorized to collect all monies due me and sell house and lot and land and after giving Thomas Grady the son of Wm Wertenbaker (now an infant) five hundred dollars to apply the remainder to the benefit to the slaves in a free state or in this if the law will permit and I appoint D Higginbotham executor of this my last will and testament.

This instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Thomas Grady deceased was produced into Court and the hand writing of testator proved by William Summerson and ordered to be recorded.
