To all whom these presents shall come, greeting, know ye that I, William Clarke of County of Louisa, for and in consideration of the respect which I have for my Negro man, Harry, who is my slave and who formerly was slave to Mr. Benjamin Mosby late of Goochland County and to reward him for past services and for and in the further consideration of the sum of 10 shillings to me in hand paid by James Poindexter for and on the part of said Harry the receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge, do from and after the date this deed declare the said Harry to be free to all intents and purposed and entitled to all the privileges and immunities which the laws of the Commonwealth doth extend to all slaves freed by their masters or mistresses and I do hereby for myself and my heirs release the said Harry (who I now call Harry Mosby) from all authority and control which the laws of my country have heretofore given me over his person. 8 December 1804 [Sig.] W.
