To all to whom these presents shall come know ye that I John Glenn of Louisa County and state of Virginia being fully convinced of the impropriety of hereditary slavery and for other human considerations do hereby for myself and my heirs forever emancipate and set free my negro man named Jerry which said negro man I purchased of James Micher of the County and State of Virginia aforesaid and the said negro man Jerry is forever hereafter to be instituted to pursue his callings and to receive all the arising benefits therefrom in the same manner as he might do if he had been born free as far as the laws of his country will admit as witness my hand this 30th day of April 1803.
