Know all men by these presents that on the sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & seventeen and the forty second of the Independence of the United States of America at the request of Harry Norton & John Brown of this City of New Orleans and in conformity to my order bearing date as above before me James Pitot Judge of the Court of Probate in and for the City and Parish of New Orleans personally appeared [illegible] P.P. Pollard, DB Stimmel, J. Havland Samuel Nelson and Richard Stern all residing in the city of New Orleans who being duly sworn according to law do declare and say that a last will which I presented to them and which appears having been made at this instance and under the direction of the late William White dec’d in the said city of New Orleans on the second September instant anno domino 1817 is the same that the said William White caused to be written out of their presence on the first of September instant which the said deceased did not sign on account for this great weakness but told them to be such his last will and testament for the purpose there in mentioned after a due reading given to him in their presence, and further that they their signatures as well as the cross mark of the said dec’d William White at the foot of the said last will and they signed signed PP Pollard, DB Stimmel, Jonathan Havland, Rich Sterns, Samuel Nelson sworn and subscribed before me in New Orleans September 6 1817 Signed Jm. Pitot Judge and John Brown here present declares upon oath that the aforesaid last will and testament is in his (said witness) own hand writing except the Woods John Brown and that the same was so written at the instance and under the direction of the said William White who acknowledged it as his last will and testament in the presence of the aforesaid witnesses and he signed John Brown sworn to and subscribed before me New Orleans September 6th 1817. Signed Jm Pitot Judge whereupon I the said Judge do declare the said last will duly proved and made agreeably to the law of this state and after having subscribed it ne varietur at the beginning and at the end I did order the same to be deposited and recorded in the register office of this Court and that copies thereof may be delivered to all person it may concern done and passed at New Orleans the same day and year first above written Signed Js. Pitot Judge ne varietur Signed Js Pitot Judge I the subscribed being indisposed in health but of sound judgement and recollection considering moreover the uncertainty of time do make and ordain Harvey Norton and John Brown my sole administrator executors attorney & for my use and in my name do by these presents request that after my death that my body may be committed to the ground & my soul to god who gave it and when all my just debts should have been paid the balance of my estate, it is my wish shall be disposed of in the following manner (viz) Charlotte my negro slave and her female daughter named Celey for their kind attention to me during my illness it is my will that they immediately after my death be emancipated and freed for life, the balance of my estate in money and other wise I do by these presents give and bequeath to my brother Maury White of the State of Virginia Signed and sealed in the parish of and city of New Orleans in the year of our Lord and first day of September eighteen hundred and seventeen in presence of Signed William White his mark Samuel Nelson Richard Stern ne varietur Signed Js. Pitot Judge I do hereby certify this to be a true copy of the original duly filed amongst there [illegible] Court In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of office New Orleans October twenty fourth one thousand eight hundred and seventeen and the forty second year of the independence of the United States of America.

At a Court held for Albemarle County the 7th day of September 1818
This instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William White deceased was produced into Court and duly certified from the City of New Orleans and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Henry White letters of administration was granted him upon his giving bond and security as the law directs which was done accordingly.
