Know all men by these presents that I William Lackey of the county of Rockbridge and State of Virginia from motives of benevolence have manumitted and set free from slavery and do hereby manumit and set free from slavery my negro man named Scippio aged seventy years and I do hereby give grant and release unto the said Scippio all my right title and claim of in and to his person labour and service, and of in and to all the estate and property which he may acquire or obtain hereafter. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of November in the year of our Lord 1846.
