Know all men by these presents that we Joseph M.Cray & Elizabeth his wife late Elizabeth Wilson the widow of Wm Wilson dec’d in our own right & as guardians in behalf of Martha A. Wilson & Mary E. Wilson minors, John Wilson, Wm. Wilson, James Wilson, Elijah Craig & Margaret his wife late Margaret Wilson children & heirs of William Wilson dec’d late of the county of Rockbridge in consideration of the sum of one dollars to us paid the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have emancipated and set free and by these presents do emancipate and set free a mulattoe [sic] man named Andrew usually known by the name of Andy Wilson a slave late the property of William Wilson dec’d aged about twenty nine years and we do by these presents forever discharge the said Andrew from all service to us or any other person. In witness whereof we have hereto set our hands & seals this 1st day of February 1843.

This Deed of Emancipation from Joseph M.Cray and Betey S. his wife, John Wilson, William Wilson, Elijah Craig and Margaret his wife and James Wilson to Andrew a slave usually known by the name of Andy Wilson, was this day procued to me proved by the oaths of Robert C. Steele and Montgomery Buchanan the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to record.
