Know all men by these presents that we John D. Ewing & Drusilla D.L.F. Ewing my wife, of the County of Rockbridge and State of Virginia do hereby liberate from a state of slavery Scipio and Peggy his wife to be at their own disposal, from and after the first day of January one thousand eight hundred & thirty four: and do hereby warrant and defend unto them their freedom from all claims arising from ourselves or our heirs- Given under our hands & seals this 27th day of December 1833.

This Deed of Emancipation from John D Ewing & Drusilla D.L.F. Ewing his wife to their slaves Scipio and Peggy his wife, was produced in court, proved by the oath of John Laird a subscribing witness, and John McCluer the other witness being dead his hand writing was proved by the oath of said Laird and ordered to be recorded.
