Know all men by these presents that I James Gilmore having the property in a negro man slave named Peter Cromwell have emancipated & set free from slavery and do by these presents emancipate & liberate said Peter forever from any claim or interest of myself or those claiming under me in testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this first day of October 1804.
