Know all men by these presents that I Mary Wade of Montgomery County from motives of benevolence have manumitted and set free from slavery, and do hereby manumit and set free from slavery my negro man Sam aged 23 years and do hereby give grant & release unto the said Sam all my right, title and claim of in and to his person, labour, and services, and to all the estate & property which he may hereafter acquire. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2nd of October 1848.

At a Court held for Montgomery County at the court house on Monday the 2nd day of October 1848. This deed of emancipation from Mary Wade to her servant Sam was proven in court by the oaths of the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded.
