Virginia Montgomery County To wit
Know all men by these presents that I Dorothea Bratton of the County of Montgomery and state of Virginia do hereby emancipate and set free the following slaves viz Abram Melville, Fleming Melville, Erasmus Melville, Howell Melville, Rosabella Melville, Milly Melville, Cyrus Melville, James Campbell, Emily Campbell, Elmira Campbell, Henry Stuart, Reuben Uriah, Daniel Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Matilda Va. Mitchell, Cary Bratton, Louisa Johnston, Emeline Johnston, Mary Johnston, Eliza Agnes Johnston, & James Cary Fleming, hereby relinquishing all right, title and claim to the service of the said slaves. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 6th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven.

Virginia. At a court held for Montgomery County at the courthouse on Monday the 7th day of December 1847. This deed of emancipation from Ms. Dorothea Bratton to Abram Melville, Fleming Melville, Erasmus Melville, Howell Melville, Rosabella Melville, Milly Melville, Cyrus Melville, James Campbell, Emily Campbell, Elmira Campbell, Henry Stuart, Reuben Uriah, Daniel Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Matilda Va. Mitchell, Cary Bratton, Louisa Johnston, Emaline Johnston, Mary Johnston, Eliza Agnes Johnston and James Cary Fleming was procured in court and proven by the oaths of William H Ruffner and John I Wade two of the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded.
