Know all men by these presents that I Mary Wade of the county of Montgomery and State of Virginia, do hereby emancipate and set free a negro man slave by name James, otherwise called James Niece. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 5th day of October 1846.

Virginia. At a Court held for Montgomery County at the Courthouse on the 5th day of October 1846. This deed of emancipation from Mary Wade to her slave James (alias) James Niece, was presented in court & proven by the oaths of Eldred R. Anderson & Fountain Morrison the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded.
