Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Carpenter of the County of Allegheny having purchased from Charles Callaghan Administrator of John Persinger Decd. and who was the [?] under the will of Jacob Persinger Decd. of a Negro woman Catherine (commonly called Kate) who was willed to John
Persinger to have and to hold in service as a slave until the 4ᵗʰ day of November 1851. And I the said Samuel Carpenter having purchased the said Catherine from the said Charles Callaghan Administrator as aforesaid and having obtained a bill of sale for the said Catherine, I do hereby for myself and my heirs Manumit and set free, and at liberty the said Catherine and hereby declare that I do not require her to serve me or my heirs from the date hereof, of the unexpired of which I purchased expiring 4ᵗʰ November 1851 at which time she becomes free under the of Jacob Persinger Decd. And I declare that I do hereby in all respects Manumit and set at liberty the said Catherine for and during the unexpired of years of which I was the purchaser and owner. In Testimony whereof I
have hereunto to this Deed set my hand and affixed my seal this 19ᵗʰ day of January 1846.

The deed of Emancipation was produced in Court and acknowledged by the said Samuel Carpenter to be his act and deed and the same is ordered to be recorded.
