William Taylor, et al

Know all men by these presents that we, William Taylor of Sanfrisco in the State of California, and Isabella Ann his wife in her right and Adam Bland of Nevada City in the state aforesaid and Ellen Caroline his wife in her right and Valentine M Peyton of Stockton in the state aforesaid, and Harriet Virgina his wife in her right, and James M Kimberland of San Jose and state aforesaid, in his right, heirs of the estate of Jacob Kimberland deceased, late or formerly of Botetourt County in the state of Virginia, and lawful owners of the persons hereinafter mentioned and described or intended so to be in consideration of one dollar severally in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and from motives of benevolence and humanity, do manumit and hereby set free from slavery a negro man named Sam and Lucy his wife, and all their children and the children of said Lucy, belonging to the estate of said Jacob Kimberland dec’d, and also a negro woman Maria and all her children belonging to said Estate, and we do hereby give, grant and release unto Sam and Lucy, his wife and unto the said Maria, severally all our right, title and claim of, in, and and to their several persons labor and service and, of, in to the estate and property which they may hereafter acquire or obtain; to have and to hold the same to the said Sam and Lucy, his wife, and unto the said Maria, and to their respective children to their use and behalf forever.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this twenty eighth day of May AD 1852.

On the 28th day of May AD 1852 before me a notary public in aforesaid county appeared, personally came Wm Taylor & Isabella Ann Taylor his wife, Adam Bland and Ellen C Bland his wife, Valentine Mason Peyton & Harriet Virginia Peyton his wife, and James M Kimberland, known to me to be the person described in who executed the foregoing instrument and severally acknowledged that they executed the same property privily & voluntarily for the use and purposes therein mentioned, and the said Isabella Ann, Ellen C & Harriet Virginia being by me examined apart from & without their having their husband acknowledged respectfully that they executed the service voluntarily without fear or manipulation under influence of their husbands & that they did not wish to retract the execution of the same.
