Text of Freedom Document
I Samuel Kennerly now of the County of Botetourt and State of Virginia being deemed to do justice to my servant Boy William for his faithfulness to me for many years do direct that my said servant William immediately after my death be manumitted and set free from my heirs and all others claiming under me upon the following conditions and express understanding that before my Boy William shall be entitled to his freedom that he pay to my Heirs Executors or administrators the full sum of four hundred dollars and that upon his failing to pay said some of money four hundred dollars and [illegible] to money he is to continue and remain a slave for the benefit of my estate as fully and entirely as I now hold him and I request that my son Augustine and my Nephew Ferdinand Fisk in that the above condition be fully complied with. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of October eighteen hundred and thirty nine.
