Know all men by these presents that we John McEntire and Mary McEntire of the County of Botetourt and State of Virginia for Divers good causes and Considerations as hereunto moving but more especially for the Sum of Fifty Pounds in hand paid the receipt where of they do hereby acknowledge together with the true and faithful service of Derry a Negro Man Slave Cate the Property of John Mills deceased of the County aforesaid who died Intestate or leaving no legal Will and by Division of the Estate among the Widow to wit Mary Mills now the Wife of John McEntire and the children of the said John Mills deceased the said Derry was allotted to her during her natural life in part of her share or Division of the Estate aforesaid and at her deceased the said Derry together with the other articles allotted her were to revert to the Children of the said John Mills deceased they the said John and Mary McEntire do hereby freely and willingly relinquish all claim which they have or may hereafter have to the said Derry as their slave or servant and do further set free the said Derry and are desirous that from hereto forth he may enjoy all the liberties and blessings of a free citizen in witness that this instrument of writing may be admitted to record the have hereunto set their hand and seals this second day of Jan. 1787.
