Text of Freedom Document

I Baxter Ragsdale of Lunenburg County in Virginia being fully persuaded from the conviction of my own mind; that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and having under my care a negro man named Jack about the age 60 years which hath been hither to kept as a slave.  I do hereby Emancipate and set at liberty the aforesaid negroe and do for myself my heirs relinquish all right title or claim whatsoever either to his person or any Estate he may acquire without interruption from me or from any other person (or person or by me) as written of my hand and seal this 16th day of July 1803.

At a court held for Lunenburg County the 16th day of July 1803 the within written deed of Emancipation was acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.
