Text of Freedom Document
I Robert Morgan of the County of Charlotte and State of Virginia being of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit.
1st I will and desire that all my just debts be paid by my Executors hereafter named.
2nd. It is my will and desire that the slaves which I own should enjoy their freedom after my decease and accordingly I do freely emancipate and set free my following slaves (to wit) Ben, Lucy, William and Tuck and their future increase to enjoy their freedom forever. But as I cannot make any provision for them to enable them to comply with the laws of the state in relation to emancipated slaves but by money arising from their hire I do hereby will and desire that they all be hired out by my Executors for the time of three years after my decease and the money arising from such hire after paying all necessary expenses to be equally divided among them, share and share like.
3rd After paying all my just debts and necessary expenses I give to my Sister Mary Morgan of the County of Nottoway all the balance of money that may remain and debts that may be due me together with my riding horse and all other property of every kind not here before disposed of which I give to her and her heirs forever.
4th I hereby nominate and appoint my friends John H Marshall and John H Thomas executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 7th day of February, one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight (1828)

At a Court held for Charlotte County the 5th day of May 1828.
This last will and testament of Robert Morgan dec’d was presented in Court and the same was provide by the oaths of Dnaiel W. Williamson and William A. Fuqua subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
And on the motion of John H Thomas one of the Executors therein named who made oath according to Law probate thereof is granted him in due form on entering into bond with security. Whereupon he with Elijah W Roach and John Thomas his securities entered into and acknowledged bond according to law for that purpose.
