“To all whom it may concern be it known, that whereas Patrick Henry, late of the County of Charlotte in the State of Virginia was in his lifetime, and at the time of his death possessed in his own right of a Mulatto man named Reuben the slave of the said Patrick Henry, and whereas the said Patrick henry by his Last Will and Testament now duly proved and of record in the aforesaid County of Charlotte impowered the undersigned Dorothea Henry to set free two of the slaves of which he should die possessed. This writing therefore witnesseth, that the said Dorothea, the widow & Executrix of the said Patric Henry in consideration off the premises hath emancipated and set free the said Mulatto man slave Reuben, & doth hereby declare him the said Reuben discharged from service by the Representatives of said Patrick Henry, or by any of
