To all whom these presents may concern. Know ye that I Paul Carrington of the County of Charlotte, taking into Consideration the long continued eminent & faithful services rendered by my two women slaves Barbara Allen, of the age of forty two and her daughter Sarah Allen of the age of twenty years as a consideration to which they are justly entitled as well by nature a reward, do consider it as a matter of Justice due to their merit that they be honor discharged from further slavery. I do therefore by these presents, Emancipate and discharge the said Barbara & Sarah, that they and each of them be henceforth deeded and considered as free people to all intents & purposes, hereafter to be considered as no part of my estate, or that of any other person or persons whatever by from or under me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the first day of January one thousand seven hundred & ninety.

At a Court held for Charlotte County the 4th day of January 1790.
This written instrument emancipating Barbara Allen and her Daughter Sarah Allen, women slaves belonging to the honurable [sic] Paul Carrington, Esquire of the said County, and by the Court adjudged to be of the ages herein escribed was acknowledged in Court by the said Paul Carrington to be his act and Deed, and on his motion, is admitted to record.
