Know all men by these presents that I Egbat R. Watson executor of Opie Norris dec. for and in the consideration of the sum of ($1200) twelve hundred dollars paid to me by James Monroe a free man of color living in the State of Ohio do hereby emancipate and set free as fully as my be done by the laws of Virginia a young negro man slave named James now the property of said estate he being the son of the said James Munroe and of his wife Evelina who was sold to her said husband some years ago by the family of the said Opie Norris. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal on this the 21st day of January 1860.
