Know all men by these presents that I Jesse Lewis of the county of Albemarle state of Virginia, in consideration of the sum of $800 in hand paid the receipt whereby is hereby acknowledged by [illegible] of said county (an agent mutually chosen by me & a certain coloured man [illegible] Randal Jones, my former slave, for the transaction of this [illegible] do hereby manumit, emancipate and wholly set free the said Randall, from all title and claim to service from the said Randal which I possessed, in consequence of our former situation, as fully and effectually as I am permitted to do, under and by virtue of the act or acts of the Assembly in such cases [illegible], and for the faithful execution of this deed of emancipation, and the fulfilment of the [illegible] on my part herein [illegible?], I do furthermore for myself and my heirs warrant and [defend?] the manumission & freedom of this said Randall against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever is In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 18th day of Oct: 1841
