Assembly of Virginia passed in the year of our Lord 1782 entitled “An act to authorize the manumission of slaves” do emancipate and set absolutely free the following negro slaves (to wit) two negro men slaves called Mark &amp; Matthew, and the following negro women slaves Frank, Peg, Betty, &amp; Aimey to be entirely free and at their own liberty on the first day of January 1787, also a negro boy called Robin to be free at the end of his twenty fourth year of his age, and negroes Ben, Sciller, Grace &amp; Esther to be free and at their own liberty as they severally arrive at the age of twenty one &amp; eighteen as by the said act of assembly is directed.               <text>Know all men by these presents that I Hezekiah Pitts of the County of Northampton and State of Virginia for good causes moving me hereunto, and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of Virginia passed in the year of our Lord 1782 entitled “an act to authorize the manumission of slaves” do hereby emancipate the following negro slaves to be free after the following manner (viz) Betty Moses to be free immediately, Pleasant Hampton to be free immediately, Alles Exor aged seventeen years last May to be free at the age of twenty one, Esther Hampton aged thirteen last April to be free at twenty one; Joshua Hampton aged ten years last January to be free at D; Tabitha Moses aged five last September to be free at D; John Robins to be free January the first 1793; Charles Nuttle to be free January 1st 1792, Elsey Houlding to be free January 1st 1797, as by the above said Act of Assembly directed, and do hereby warrant and defend the freedom of said negroes against myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigus under the penal sum of one thousand pounds current money of Virginia to be recovered by said negroes in case of any attempts to deprive them of their liberty by us as above granted. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of July Anno Domini 1788.&#13;

              <text>I George Pitts of Northampton County and State of Virginia in the name of God do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth, to wit. I leave my slave Saul to be hired out yearly for seven years and the money arising from the hire to be equally divided between my wife and child, and at the expiration of that time I will him to be free forever.&#13;
Item. I give to Major Pettit a suit of my clothes, and my will is that the rest of my estate shall be sold, and that my child Matildah shall have one third part thereof forever.&#13;
Item. I give out of the other two thirds to Sally Pettit four pounds, and the rest of the two thirds I give to my loving wife Elizabeth Pitts forever, provided she accounts with her mother for her claim against me; but if my wife refuses to account with her mother, my will is that part of that money shall be put out to defray her yearly charge against my estate, but when that claim shall cease then as before, my will is that my wife shall have it forever. I nominate &amp; appoint Hezekiah Pitts executor to this my last will &amp; testament, as witness my hand &amp; seal this 25th February 1788.&#13;

              <text>Know all men by these presents that I Betsey Barlow of the County of Northampton and State of Virginia for good cause and considerations, me hereunto moving, and by virtue of An Act of the General Assembly of Virginia passed in the year of our Lord 1782 entitled “an act to authorize the manumission of slaves” do hereby emancipate and set absolutely free the following negro slaves, to wit. Jacob and Sarah, to whom I give the names of Jacob Holland and Sarah Marnick, to be free and at their own liberty on the first day of January 1789, as by said Act of Assembly is directed. And I do hereby warrant and defend the freedom of the said negroes against myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators as well as against all persons whatsoever claiming title to the same by or from me under the penal sum of one hundred pounds current money of Virginia to be recovered by each of the said negroes in case of any attempt to deprive them of their liberty by us as above granted. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this [blank] day of December Anno Domini 1788.&#13;
