I Alexander Campbell by this indenture do grant freedom to my trusty & faithful slave Ambrose. In doing which it is fully impressed upon my mind that I make to him but a small compensation for the unmerited wrong which he suffered in the original privation of his freedom, and in his exclusion from liberty for a long series of years.
