              <text>Know all men by these presents that on the sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred &amp; seventeen and the forty second of the Independence of the United States of America at the request of Harry Norton &amp; John Brown of this City of New Orleans and in conformity to my order bearing date as above before me James Pitot Judge of the Court of Probate in and for the City and Parish of New Orleans personally appeared [illegible] P.P. Pollard, DB Stimmel, J. Havland Samuel Nelson and Richard Stern all residing in the city of New Orleans who being duly sworn according to law do declare and say that a last will which I presented to them and which appears having been made at this instance and under the direction of the late William White dec’d in the said city of New Orleans on the second September instant anno domino 1817 is the same that the said William White caused to be written out of their presence on the first of September instant which the said deceased did not sign on account for this great weakness but told them to be such his last will and testament for the purpose there in mentioned after a due reading given to him in their presence, and further that they their signatures as well as the cross mark of the said dec’d William White at the foot of the said last will and they signed signed PP Pollard, DB Stimmel, Jonathan Havland, Rich Sterns, Samuel Nelson sworn and subscribed before me in New Orleans September 6 1817 Signed Jm. Pitot Judge and John Brown here present declares upon oath that the aforesaid last will and testament is in his (said witness) own hand writing except the Woods John Brown and that the same was so written at the instance and under the direction of the said William White who acknowledged it as his last will and testament in the presence of the aforesaid witnesses and he signed John Brown sworn to and subscribed before me New Orleans September 6th 1817. Signed Jm Pitot Judge whereupon I the said Judge do declare the said last will duly proved and made agreeably to the law of this state and after having subscribed it ne varietur at the beginning and at the end I did order the same to be deposited and recorded in the register office of this Court and that copies thereof may be delivered to all person it may concern done and passed at New Orleans the same day and year first above written Signed Js.               <text>Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Mayse of the County of Bath and Commonwealth of Virginia for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving hath liberated, emancipated and forever set free from servitude, and by these presents hath liberated, emancipated and forever set free from servitude my negro woman slave Charlotte and her future increase and doth hereby bind myself and my heirs to forever quit claim to the said slave Charlotte, and her future increase as a slave or slaves reserving to myself the services and control of my said slave Charlotte during my life. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this [blank] day of [blank] 1839.&#13;

This deed of emancipation from Joseph Mayse to Charlotte a slave was presented in to me in my office and on the 28th day of April 1840 was partly proved by the oath of Warwick Gatewood and Samuel Lewis and on the 29th day of May 1840 was fully proved by the oath of Robert Carlyle they being three of the subscribing witnesses thereto and was admitted to record.&#13;
